| In the vicinity of the castle stands a small and very sober rural chapel where Charlotte d’Albret (wife of the well-known Cesar Borgia) retired from 1504 to 1514. It houses the elaborate tomb (a listed monument) of the duchess of Valentinois by Martin Claustre, a sculptor from Grenoble : the alabaster recumbent figure of Charlotte is surrounded by the Seven Virtues.
Moved by the story of this princess deserted by her husband, George Sand evoked it in her novel « The fine gentlemen of Bois Doré ».
